To the ACEC Florida Community,
I hope all of our members have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year. As we begin the first quarter of 2024, it is time for ACEC Florida’s annual “Award Season” to honor both individual engineers and design teams for all their hard work the year prior. The following are several exciting ways that you can nominate your firm or colleagues for recognition within ACEC Florida.
2024 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) Banquet
Friday, February 23, 2024 / 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM / Loews Royal Pacific Resort / 6300 Hollywood Way, Orlando, FL 32819
The winners of the 2024 EEA Awards were announced, and the winners were contacted this month so that they have ample time to notify their sub-consultants who were part of the winning project as well. This year, we would like to see both the prime consultant team and the sub-consultants for each project at the EEA Award Banquet. Duplicate award plaques will be available for sub-consultants to purchase, and sponsorship opportunities are still available, although they are going fast. 2024 Larry Madrid GMEC Award
Deadline To Submit Nomination: February 23, 2024
The Larry Madrid GMEC Award recognizes the outstanding personal efforts of its recipient to advance the technical and professional practice of geotechnical engineering in Florida. This award was named after Larry Madrid, P.E., a Geotechnical Engineer cornerstone in our industry for decades before his untimely passing. He was an inspiring engineer and friend and truly showed our industry what it meant to be a geotechnical engineer. The recipient of this award will be recognized at the 2024 GMEC Conference, which will be held on April 3-5, 2024, at the Marriott Jacksonville Downtown.
A.W. Gilchrist Award
Deadline To Submit Nomination: March 22, 2024
The ACEC Florida Governor A.W. Gilchrist Award is presented each year to a Florida-registered professional engineer who has brought recognition to the profession through their public office and/or civic leadership with significant participation in ACEC Florida and other professional and technical societies throughout the State. Albert Walter Gilchrist was a professional engineer who became a State Legislator, Speaker of the House, and ultimately, the 20th Governor of the State of Florida (1909-1913). Governor Gilchrist is remembered for both his legislative and civic efforts throughout his career, and Gilchrist County was named in honor of his exemplary service to the State.
Young Professional of the Year Award
Deadline To Submit Nomination: March 22, 2024
The intent of the ACEC Florida Young Professional of the Year Award is to reward the accomplishments of member firm staff aged 35 years and younger (as of December 31, 2024) by highlighting their engineering contributions and their resulting impact on society. The winner of this award will also be entered into the annual National Young Professional Award competition, designed to enhance and improve the image of engineering by recognizing young, diverse, and talented engineers, thereby portraying engineering as an exciting profession open to everyone.
Community Service Award
Deadline To Submit Nomination: May 3, 2024
The intent of the ACEC Florida Community Service Award is to reward ACEC Florida members for their accomplishments in community service. This is an award for individual members who have gone above and beyond to better their community around them, and the ACEC Florida winning candidate will be submitted for consideration in ACEC National’s Community Service Award Competition, which will be announced at the ACEC National Conference.
I encourage all our members to review these award opportunities and consider nominating their staff, as there is still time. I’m constantly in awe of the accomplishments of our members, and I believe that these types of award opportunities allow us to take a minute to thank our staff for the work they do daily.
