Senior Policy Analyst

Starting immediately, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida) and the Florida Engineering Society (FES) are looking to hire an Event Planner in Tallahassee, FL.

About the Role

The Senior Policy Analyst serves as the organization’s primary source of knowledge about the policies that impact the engineering profession and engineering industry and is responsible for advancing the organization’s policy agenda through legislation, regulation and executive action on the federal, state and local level.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts research and analysis on policy.
  • Drafts position papers, white papers, testimony, fact sheets, talking points, frequently asked questions, advocacy “leave-behinds” and mythbusters on policy.
  • Drafts comment letters, including letters of support or opposition, on legislation, proposed rules and executive orders.
  • Analyzes legislation and proposed rules for impacts to the engineering industry, including pros and cons.
  • Makes recommendations on policy positions.
  • Assists in developing annual and multi-year policy agendas.
  • Builds relationships with lawmakers, policymakers and policy shapers, and their respective staff, to advance the organization’s policy agenda.
  • Attends legislative hearings and meetings of regulatory organizations, such as the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
  • Tracks status of priority legislation.
  • Summarizes legislation and proposed rules in easy-to-understand language for use by staff, members, partners, the press and the public.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the communications team to develop advocacy materials, including newsletters, emails, legislative alerts and calls to action.
  • Schedules meetings with state and federal lawmakers and administration officials for members.
  • Serves as staff liaison on policy committees.
  • Provides support to leadership of Political Action Committees (PACs).
  • Undertakes other assignments, as necessary.

Structure

  • Serves as a joint position of ACEC Florida and FES
  • Reports to the Executive Director
  • Exempt Position

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Based in Tallahassee, Florida.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience or understanding of the political and legislative processes.
  • Strong research, writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with policymakers.
  • Strong self-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with experience.
