President’s Message: February 2025
ACEC Florida President Andy Lauzier, PE
To the ACEC Florida Community,
For this month’s President’s message, I decided to recap some of the opportunities afforded me as ACEC Florida’s President in just the past couple of weeks.
On February 7th, I had the pleasure of attending and participating in the 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards for ACEC Florida. This formal celebration recognized several award-winning projects developed by our member firms. ACEC Florida recognized four projects with Honor Awards and five as Grand Award winners this year. We then announced the 2025 ACEC Florida Grand Conceptor Award, which went to HNTB for their work on the Brightline East-West Connector project. When accepting the Grand Conceptor Award, John Hornbeck, Project Manager, noted that he had worked on this project for 10 years, from concept to construction completion.
Last week, I attended the sold-out ACEC Florida Transportation Committee meeting in Orlando. This quarterly meeting is always well attended and provides transportation professionals with updates on the partnership between ACEC Florida and our transportation clients, including FDOT and Expressway Authorities. During this meeting, John Tyler, FDOT District 5 Secretary, addressed the attendees regarding the importance of ACEC Florida’s partnership with FDOT and common initiatives such as Workforce Development, Improved Quality of Deliverables, and several other items.
The next day (February 11th), I had the honor of addressing over 2,100 attendees at the Florida Transportation Builders Association (FTBA) 2025 Construction Symposium. I discussed several of ACEC Florida’s initiatives and opportunities for our organizations to work together to improve transportation for Florida residents.
As last week ended, I had the opportunity to ride Brightline from Orlando International Airport (the first leg of which was the Grand Conceptor Award Project mentioned previously) to Miami. I then attended the first ACEC/ASCE/APWA Engineering and Public Works Roadshow of 2025, highlighting the I-395 Signature Bridge project (part of the larger I-395/SR836/I-95 DB Project) in Miami. Hopefully, this detailed glimpse into the opportunities afforded me as your ACEC Florida President shows the importance of our organization and how each of us contributes to the quality of life of the citizens in the State of Florida. Please continue the amazing work you do, and Happy Engineer’s Week!
Sincerely,
Andre’ (Andy) Lauzier, PE (FL, GA)
