President’s Message: August 2024
ACEC Florida President Andy Lauzier, PE
To the ACEC Florida Community,
First, I want to thank my predecessor, Tom Hayden, and the entire ACEC Florida Board of Directors (BOD) for the opportunity to serve as ACEC Florida’s President for the next 12 months. Under Tom’s leadership, ACEC Florida accomplished many significant goals, and I look forward to doing much more as we advance and promote the business of engineering.
For those I haven’t met or worked with previously, here’s a little about me:
ACEC has been a significant part of my professional development for many years.
- I have been a member of FES as a PE in Private Practice since first obtaining my PE registration.
- I joined the Transportation Committee of what was then the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers (FICE) in the late 1990s and served on the Executive Committee of the FES Central Florida Chapter in the same timeframe.
- While living in Atlanta, Ga, I served on the ACEC Georgia BOD from 2002-2004.
- I also served as ACEC Florida Transportation Committee Chair in 2016 and joined the ACEC Florida BOD in 2018.
- I recently completed a 2-year term as ACEC National Transportation Committee Chair earlier this year.
The colleagues, mentors, and friends I have made through this involvement have helped me develop as an engineer and manager and, quite honestly, continue to motivate me to share with my community and others how important engineers are to our society.
As I accept this opportunity to serve as ACEC Florida’s President, I have a few key goals that I will focus on:
- ACEC Florida| FES Building—Working with the ACEC Florida and FES Boards, reach consensus on the direction of the headquarters building.
- Expand ACEC Florida’s engagement with ACEC National.
-
- Align ACEC Florida Committees with National Committees.
- Have an ACEC Florida member engaged with National Committees to align with our Committees.
- Continue to encourage attendance at National Conferences.
- Leverage Peter Moore’s role as Vice Chair at ACEC National.
- Finances – Strive to Improve the timeliness of financial reporting and clarification of funds with ACEC Florida and FES.
- Engagement with clients and the public at large
- Look at ways to improve our engagement with FDOT and other agencies. Some areas of focus would be:
- Legislative support
- Workforce development
- Resiliency of our infrastructure resources
- Leveraging technology in the delivery of engineering solutions
- Continued development of Committees—Much of the work done through ACEC is at the Committee level. This includes the continual development of our Energy Committee, Aviation, and Seaport Committees, among others.
These are just a few items our BOD will work on this year. In the end, ACEC Florida is focused on the business of engineering and improving the business environment for all our member firms while continuing to serve the communities where we all live, work, and play.
Finally, I want to thank my employer, HDR, for their support and willingness to allow me to serve in this leadership role. And to my family, particularly my wife of nearly 35 years, who always supports me in all my professional and personal aspirations.
Sincerely,
Andre’ (Andy) Lauzier, PE (FL, GA)
