President’s Message: June 2024
ACEC Florida President Tom Hayden, PE
To the ACEC Florida Community,
Last week, ACEC Florida held our annual Transportation Conference at the Rosen Centre in Orlando, Florida. It was a great event, with over 500 attendees from both the FDOT and the Private Sector. There were presentations from FDOT Secretary Jared Perdue, FDOT Assistant Secretary for Engineering and Operations Will Watts, FDOT Chief Engineer Dan Hurtado, and other FDOT staff from around the state. On behalf of ACEC Florida, I want to personally thank FDOT Management for their assistance and partnership with the Conference, as we couldn’t have done it without their support. I also want to congratulate our very own Scott Perfater, who was selected as the winner of the prestigious 2024 Ben Watts Partnership Award! This award honors the individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to developing the effective partnership between FDOT and the engineering consultant community.
Mark your calendars for some other exciting events coming up this summer! On June 26th, we will hold an ACEC Florida|FDOTConnect Virtual Training Lab on Roadway Design 3D Modeling. This is a two-day training course designed to cover the fundamentals of 3D Modeling. The participants will learn the Bentley OpenRoads Designer Connect Edition tools for design and modeling with the FDOTConnect workspace.
On July 24th, we will also hold our 2024 FES|ACEC Florida Annual Conference at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry in Aventura, Florida. This annual joint event is organized by the Florida Engineering Society (FES) and ACEC Florida, and numerous educational sessions and training tracks are planned throughout the week. Our annual conference serves as our last Board of Directors meeting for the year and will culminate with Andy Lauzier being inducted as the next ACEC Florida President for 2024-2025. In addition, it is the final event for this year’s Florida Engineering Leadership Institute (FELI) class, where they will present the various community service events they have worked on throughout the year.
In the next month, you will receive emails on how to set up your new individual member account with ACEC Florida, which can be found here. Included in this email blast will be step-by-step instructions on how to set up your new account. Even if you already have an ACEC Florida individual account set up previously, we’re asking that everyone take a moment to follow the steps that will be provided to ensure that your information is accurate. Our Headquarters staff spent countless hours integrating our old database system into our new database, and we could not have done this integration without all their hard work.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the Annual Conference, and I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable July 4th Holiday. As always, thank you for being a member of ACEC Florida!
Sincerely,
Tom Hayden, P.E.
