President’s Message: July 2025
ACEC Florida President Richard G. Acree, PE
To the ACEC Florida Community,
In the wake of the devastating floods in Texas, it’s essential to reflect on the crucial role engineers play in protecting our communities. The damage and loss of life are heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with those still missing, the families who lost loved ones, and all those whose lives have been upended. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the first responders, volunteers, and engineers supporting rescue and recovery efforts. You are making a difference in the most critical moments.
Events like these underscore the importance of resilient stormwater infrastructure more than ever. As part of our effort to keep members informed and prepared, FES and ACEC Florida are continuing our six-part Stormwater Rule Webinar Series. I encourage you to attend Session 2 on Tuesday, July 23, titled “A Water Management District’s Perspective on the New Stormwater Rule.” We’ll hear from David Miracle, P.E., Regulatory Manager from SJRWMD, as he shares insights on how the updated rule is being interpreted and implemented.
Looking ahead, we’re counting down to the 2025 FES & ACEC Florida Annual Conference, taking place July 30 – August 2 in beautiful Marco Island. This is our signature event and a can’t-miss gathering for Florida’s engineering community. Whether you’re coming for the continuing education, product showcases, leadership development, or the many networking opportunities, this is where Florida engineers come together to connect, grow, and lead. Be sure to attend the ACEC Florida Board Installation Lunch on Thursday, July 31, from 11:45 am – 1:15 pm.
As you register, please consider helping the next generation of engineers by choosing to “Adopt-a-Student” to help cover the costs for students in engineering programs across the state. It’s a small gesture that makes a big impact on the next generation of engineers. And if you’ve never taken the Order of the Engineer pledge, I hope you’ll join us for the ceremony during the FES Awards Luncheon on Friday, August 1, from 11:30 AM to 1:15 PM. It’s a powerful reminder of the commitment we all share to the highest standards of our profession.
Thank you for your dedication to engineering excellence, and I look forward to seeing many of you in Marco Island.
Best regards,
Rick Acree, PE
